Staking

Staking is Atto's reward mechanism for eligible accounts delegated to participating voters. Delegation also assigns voting weight for Open Representative Voting, but staking rewards are separate from transaction consensus.

Reward rates can change

Staking rewards are variable and depend on the current reward policy, account eligibility, and voter settings. This page also shows the base-APY × GSI programme calculation. Displayed APY and payout timing can change.

Programme inputs: The displayed base APY is 200%, the GSI is 0.1, and the effective programme APY is 20% (base APY × GSI). The effective figure is before the selected voter's delegator share and any cap-related reduction, so an eligible account's rate may be lower. These figures are not a promised user return, and ATTO's market value may fall.

Why Stake?

  • Receive staking rewards: Eligible accounts may receive rewards based on the displayed variable APY
  • Support representative diversity: Choosing among voters can distribute delegated voting weight
  • Keep control of your funds: Delegation assigns voting weight without transferring custody

How to Start Staking

  1. Get Atto: Under current rules, have at least $10 USD worth of Atto in your wallet to meet the displayed minimum
  2. Choose a Voter: In your wallet, select a participating voter that displays an APY percentage (browse active voters)
  3. Stay Eligible: Make at least one transaction every 30 days
  4. Receive Funds: Log into your wallet regularly to receive pending transactions so they can count toward your balance

How Rewards Are Calculated

Effective Balance

Reward calculations use your effective balance:

  • The average of your daily balances over the past 30 days
  • Capped at your current balance (you can't earn on funds you no longer hold)

This rewards consistent holders and prevents gaming the system by briefly inflating balances.

Pre-Share Illustration

The simplified expression below illustrates the amount before applying voter sharing and any cap-related reduction. Its inputs and eligibility rules may change.

Illustrative Pre-Share Amount = Effective Balance × Programme Daily Rate

The programme daily rate is derived from the programme annual APY. This is not a complete user payout formula: the selected voter's delegator share applies, and allocations may then be proportionally reduced when that voter's delegated balance exceeds the cap.

Voter Cap

The current reward calculation applies a cap of 180 million Atto to each voter's total delegated balance. Above the cap, reward allocations are proportionally reduced for that voter's eligible delegators.

Tip: A participating voter with lower total delegation may be less affected by the cap.

GSI Influence

The programme calculation multiplies the base APY by the Growth Stability Index (GSI).

Payout Schedule

Under current operations, the reward system generally processes staking rewards once per day for eligible accounts using the previous day's calculation. Processing time may vary.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the minimum balance required for staking?

Under the current reward rules, you need to hold at least $10 USD worth of Atto in your wallet to be eligible for staking rewards.

How often are staking rewards paid out?

Under current operations, the reward system generally processes staking rewards once per day for eligible accounts using the previous day’s calculation. Processing time may vary.

Why do I need to make a transaction every 30 days?

The reward policy uses this activity requirement when determining eligibility. Making at least one transaction every 30 days keeps an otherwise qualifying account active for staking reward purposes.

What is the effective balance and how is it calculated?

Your effective balance is the average of your daily balances over the past 30 days, capped at your current balance. This limits the effect of briefly increasing a balance.

What is the voter cap and why does it exist?

The current reward calculation caps each voter’s effective delegated balance at 180 million Atto across all delegators. Above that cap, reward allocations are proportionally reduced for that voter’s eligible delegators. The cap is intended to encourage delegation across multiple voters.

How does the GSI affect my staking rewards?

Under the published Growth Stability Index (GSI) design, GSI can scale the base rate for a programme that uses it. Whether that design currently applies to staking, and with which settings and update cadence, must be confirmed from operational records. The displayed programme APY is an estimate before voter share, cap effects, and account eligibility, not a guaranteed user return.

Do unreceived funds count toward my staking balance?

No. Atto sent to your account must be received by logging into the wallet before it counts toward your staking balance.

How do I choose the best voter for staking?

Look for participating voters that display an APY percentage. A voter with lower total delegation may be less affected by the current 180 million Atto cap.

Can I change my voter after I start staking?

Yes, you can change your voter through your wallet. Select another participating voter that displays an APY percentage; future reward calculations use the new selection when your account is eligible.

What happens if my balance drops below the minimum?

An account below the current minimum of $10 USD worth of Atto is not eligible for staking rewards until its balance meets the minimum again.
